Cross Docking
Inbound freight is unloaded, sorted and reloaded onto outbound trailers the same day, often within hours. Nothing is put away. It suits consolidating several inbound shipments into one outbound load, breaking a full trailer down into regional deliveries, or transferring between equipment types near the border. Because the freight never enters storage, both handling cost and dwell time come out of the lane.

Which one do you actually need?
If your freight is waiting on space, that is warehousing. If it is waiting on a schedule — a consolidation, a regional break-down, a transfer between carriers — that is cross docking, and it is the cheaper answer because the freight never gets put away and picked again.
